UHD MENU'S

Post by Markus1970 »

Hey ive downloaded the trial version of the BDS UHD and ive noticed when coming to designing the menu's that I am limited to 1920x1080 instead of 4k resolution.

I have created movies for the menu's in 3830x2160 but when coming to position buttons the x,y coordinates are related to 1080p, is this the standard for 4K bluray as i thought 4k menus was fine.
I've noticed the IG Editor has uhd support

Thanks

Menu in UHD is in 1080p. Physically BD/UHD has 3 layers:
- background (bottom)
- video
- menu (top)
Layers can have different resolutions. Thus, in 4k video layer has 4k resolution, but menu layer has 2k (in Java and IG/HDMV).

So is it best to keep my menus that have video backgrounds in 1080p,
Also can you mix h264 as the menus and h265 for the main movie allthru I understand h265 would be more convenient as in space compression.

I too was curious why 3840x2160 was giving me a error message in IGEditor, so for maximum menu "sharpness" would this be the best combination
- background (bottom) = 3840x2160 72dpi
- video = 3840x2160 72dpi
- menu (top) = 1920x1080 72dpi. (I persume the top layer is stretched to 3840x2160?)

Do I have to worry about certain thin fonts or colour combinations which may lead to pixcelised edging due to the stretching?

Documentation says that player just sets different resolutions for different planes. Theoretically, you should not see any stretch artifacts.

PS: background plane is not used by Blu-Disc Studio / KITe Java.
