Software based playback with menu support

Post by _litz »

This is a bit of an oddball use case, but we create custom BD discs that are used in a convention-forum space by room managers.

They contain a menu system, with still slides, video, and other items that are used between panel sessions to put content up on the large screens in the panel rooms.

Our problem is, the AV vendor that supplies the hardware appears to be incapable of providing functional bluray players and we constantly have problems with the players breaking down (and failing to play discs, videos, etc etc). They are cheap consumer-grade equipment.

We'd like to move to a PC based playback solution, but don't want to lose the ease of the player interface (e.g. a remote with arrow keys and a "GO" button) and its menu.

What options are there for software playback that don't include a $100+ Cyberlink product?

With Blu-Disc being the authoring package, the solution must support javascript BD menus ....

The problem I'm running into with Leawo is it doesn't do JavaScript menus ...

It just plays titles directly

Well.. I believe in Cyberlink only :)
Currently they have a discount - the price is 70 EUR.

I confirmed with a guy who uses Leawo. He says: "It does but not well".

May be PlayerFab from DVDFab will play with a menu.

For many of my Apple Mac clients, I recommend MacGo Blu-ray player. It is excellent and supports the full Blu-ray Java menus. It only supports HD Blu-ray, not UHD however, but still it works great.
